Up to 200 runners took part in this very successful event, people from all walks of life and all ages, including our very own Principal Mr. Thornton, teachers, parents, students, friends, and grandparents. There were 5k/10k events, running or walking. Although the event had a fun element to it, the seasoned athletes in the field took a more serious approach to the challenge. First man home in the 10k was Larry Murphy, and in the 5k was Dean Holmes and first lady home in 10k was Catherine Murphy and in the 5k was Elaine Cardiff. After each participant had crossed the line, they were presented with fruit, juices and fruit salads which were kindly sponsored by local company Sunshine Juices.
Morgan’s Medical Hall Tullow, was the main sponsor on the day, they paid for pop up races and also presented the winners in each category with hampers.
There was a fantastic atmosphere on the morning, the weather was very kind to the event, and everyone helped out to make it a great community event.
From those doing the registration, marking the route, stewards, and people helping out with refreshments we thank you all.
Special thanks go to Mr Brian O’ Reilly who liaised with the students and the teachers.
It is estimated that the event raised approx. €1,800 which will be used to improve the sporting facilities in the school. Mr O’Reilly has a number of ideas on how it should be spent!
The Parents Association were delighted with the success of this event, and would hope this will be an Annual Event, and it will grow bigger and stronger each year.
